Even though I freaking love this series, the 'to be continued...' endings are getting really old. The books will sell without the little three paragraph cliffhangers. They're good enough. Just saying. And while I love the series, I was a bit disappointed with Sophia's story. It was actually only half her story and half went back to Raphael and Cyn. Not that I'm complaining about more Raphael! It was just a bit convoluted, bouncing back and forth between the two couples. It seemed as if Sophia and Colin got shortchanged. And, I suppose I have to admit that I didn't really like Sophia. She seemed vain and presumptuous, but didn't really have anything to back it up with. She supposedly has tons of vampy power, but never really showed it. And she was kind of a jerk to Colin and expected him to get over it and sleep with her already. Colin was a great guy, totally macho hero type, and I would have wanted someone to treasure him a bit more, and value him.Raphael and Cyn's part of the story was awesome. Each time we read more from them, it gets deeper, more emotional than the last. Raphael has been notorious for holding himself back, even from Cyn. But he loses control in this book, and it's marvelous to hear about. It may sound silly, but you can FEEL his power pouring off the pages. You can tell that he is quite simply the most powerful vampire around, and when his feelings and emotions come out, they're just as powerful as he is. Cyn is truly his other half. And I think I may love Cyn just as much as Raphael. She is still, of course, a kick-a** woman, but she's not afraid to show her softer side or her love for her man. She's the perfect balance of independence and vulnerability. I'm so very glad that Ms. Reynolds is sticking with Cyn and Raphael. We get to see more of their relationship than just the first gooey stages of infatuation/love. We are now getting a better understanding of the more meaningful, forever type of love that will sustain them.
